How Can I Tell if My Wheels Aren’t Aligned the Way They Should Be?

Your wheels should be aligned to ensure all of the tire treads meet the road evenly. Generally, wheels need to be aligned when you put a new set of tires on your automobile and every one or two years after that. You can tell if your wheels are out of alignment from the signs that we are going to list below. Padron Automotive recommends that you bring your vehicle to our shop if you think that your wheels are not aligned the way they should be.

Signs the Wheels Aren’t Aligned

Your wheels need to be aligned so that they are pointing straight from side to side and from top to bottom. Misaligned wheels can make it difficult to handle your automobile. Wheels that are aligned properly are going to go straight until you turn them in a different direction. Signs that your wheels are not aligned include

  • Your vehicle pulling to the side when you are steering straight
  • Tire tread wear that is uneven or in patches and rapid
  • A crooked steering wheel logo when your wheels are pointed straight
  • Tires that squeal every time you turn around a corner

All of these things suggest that your tire treads are not flush with the pavement and your wheel alignment is off. Perhaps two of the easiest signs of bad wheel alignment are your automobile pulling to the side and a crooked steering wheel. If you notice any of these things, bring your vehicle to our shop so we can realign your wheels if necessary.

Things That Knock the Wheels Out of Alignment

As we said above, your wheels should be aligned every one or two years. This does not mean, however, that you cannot knock the wheels out of alignment beforehand. Road hazards make it easy to knock the wheels out of alignment even if you’re a careful driver. Things that will affect your vehicle’s wheel alignment include

  • Driving over bumps too fast
  • Hitting curbs constantly
  • Speeding over speed bumps
  • Flying through potholes
  • Slamming into parking space markers
  • Getting into an automobile accident

All of these things can damage your wheel alignment and your vehicle’s suspension. In fact, if you fly through a deep pothole too fast you may find that wheel alignment is the least of your worries because you’ve just broken an axle. Take it easy on the road to protect your wheel alignment.

As we said above, Padron Automotive in Topeka, KS, would be happy to realign your wheels if they need it. Call us today for an appointment.
