How Can I Tell if My Engine Is Beyond Repair?

We here at Padron Automotive can help you tell whether your engine is beyond repair. We are automotive service and repair experts, and there will come a time when your engine can no longer be repaired because it is at the end of its life. If you love your automobile and would prefer to have a new engine dropped into it, we can do that. Here are signs your vehicle needs a new engine.

It Doesn’t Have Any Umph

One of the first signs is that your engine simply does not have any umph anymore. You’ve noticed significant power loss in the engine and no matter how hard you try to maintain it, the engine simply cannot generate the power that it used to. This is definitely a sign that your engine has reached the end of its life and it’s time to replace it.

It Overheats Constantly

Another sign that you need a new engine is if it overheats constantly. If the cooling system is in proper working order yet the engine still overheats every time you drive your automobile, you may have a cracked engine block. This is something that cannot be repaired. Rather, the engine must be replaced.

You Have Metal Shavings in the Oil

If you have metal shavings in your motor oil, your engine definitely needs to be replaced. The metal shavings are actually automotive parts that are disintegrating into the oil as it passes over them. In fact, your engine will die within a few hours once the metal shavings are released into the oil. There’s no way to fix this problem. You have to have a new engine.

You Hear Knocking All the Time

If you hear knocking all the time, it’s possible that your automobile has a condition called rod knock. This sound is being caused by the pistons; they are banging inside the cylinders. The reason why they are making contact with the cylinders is that the rod bearings have worn down and the pistons are moving up and down unevenly. This can seriously damage your cylinder block.

You’ve Got a Lot of Exhaust

Finally, if you have a ton of exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe, you may need a new engine. If the exhaust is black, your engine is hemorrhaging fuel and burning it away. If the exhaust is blue or gray, you have a serious oil leak and the oil is being burned away. If the exhaust is white, you have a serious coolant leak and the coolant is being burned away.
